Hi everyone!
During school and upon graduation, I have worked with kids as an art teacher for 5 years. Art and creativity have always been important to me and something I value highly in my life. I have been very blessed to have parents that have encouraged and inspired my creativity. So I know that encouraging and insipring children creatively is my passion and I want to devote my life to this cause. With that being said, I have decided to volunteer at an orphange to inspire them to think creatively by teaching them art. I invite you to join me on my journey through this project and experience.
In the Casa del Tesoro de Dios Orphanage there are 50 children ranging from ages 4-15 years old. The orphange is located in the mountains of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. These kids live in a small two bedroom house and go to a public school. The orphanage is basically single handedly run by pastor Joel Pena and his wife. I will be dedicating three months to teaching the kids art while providing them with art supplies, DVD-educational videos and books, and funds to finish the second level roof. My niece has rasied the funds and completed the second floor but the roof has yet to be built, so much progress has been made. I am funding all my own personal travel expenses, therefore all the money we are raising is fully dedicated to the projects at the orphange.
So here they are...
Art Supplies:
50 sketch pads and instructional books- $250.00
100 pencils- $100.00
50 erasers- $50.00
Educational Supplies:
TV / DVD player- $400
Educational Audio Visuals and books- $200
Second Building Phase
Concrete, sand, rebarb, cement mixer, + windows and labor(required hurricane regulations)- $11,000
In total we now have 5,000 in direct donations and 1,700 in donayions from gofundme. We now need 5,000 more for the roof!
