Our mission: ARKANSAS Table: a SNAP Gap Initiative is a Central Arkansas grassroots effort to raise funds for food and personal items for those in our community who are affected by the SNAP suspension starting November 1st. All donations will go toward the purchase of needed food and items and will be delivered directly to local food pantries in the Central Arkansas area who work directly with SNAP recipients.
Give today. Feed a neighbor.
Time is up! When the government shuts down, so does SNAP—the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that helps more than 40 million Americans buy groceries each month. In Arkansas alone, over 240,000 people depend on these benefits to put food on the table.
Starting November 1, SNAP payments will be paused. That means the most vulnerable—children, seniors, and working families—will go hungry.
Facts:
- SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) eligibility is based on household income levels, assets, citizenship and is administered by USDA (US Department of Agriculture), a federal program which is funded by tax dollars.
- Roughly $8–9 billion in monthly SNAP payments will be paused starting November 1 if Congress doesn’t pass a temporary spending bill.
- SNAP helps more than 40 million Americans buy food each month.
- Approximately 240,000 Arkansans receive monthly SNAP benefits — roughly 8% of the state’s population.
- Around 15.7% of Arkansans live in poverty, and nearly 1 in 5 households experience food insecurity each year.
- In FY 2024, Arkansas had the 43rd highest share of its population receiving SNAP benefits among states and Washington, DC.
