Over the past year, a group of students from McGill University realized that a problem existed on campus - there was no space for less-religious albeit practicing Jews in the McGill Jewish community. A gap this group of McGill students feel is waiting to be filled. Many individuals spoken to expressed this exact same sentiment: our religious and spiritual needs were simply not being met.
Thus, Am McGill was born.
Am McGill is an inclusive, event-based Jewish group based along themes of community, advocacy, Jewish values, tradition, and providing Jewish students with a safe space on McGill's campus. Our tzevet (the executive board) is comprised of second year McGill students from diverse backgrounds, with diverse interests, and a shared love for our religion, traditions, and people.
We truly feel that Am Mcgill means a new chapter for the Jewish Community at Mcgill University, but we cannot do it without your financial support. We have received great positive feedback from the McGill student body, and we do not want to turn anyone away. We hope that you are able to join us in fulfilling that need and will embark on this incredible journey with us. Diverse representation within Judaism is an important cause and one worth fighting for.
Furthermore, we are also asking for donations of Judaica. We most urgently need shabbat candlesticks and a kiddush cup, but also would like to have items such as Challah covers, a menorah, and a seder plate. If you are interested in donating an item, please shoot us an email at [email redacted] to discuss details.
We look forward to having you with us during our monumental beginnings at McGill university; we can think of nothing that would make this journey more special! Toda roba!
