Sustaining Today, Building a Legacy

Last year we had an opportunity to rent a building in Germantown. It gave us a home base for Post 295's Legion programs, such as the High School Oratorical Contest, Boy Scouts, Baseball and many other programs.

The approval by the Maryland Legistlature to make slot machines available to Legion Posts presented a source of revenue. Realistically, the Post has profited only $3800 in 6 months while monies forwarded to the state has been $5200. We will not be able to sustain the post because utilities are much higher than the $75 we earned last week, while depositing over $600 to Maryland.

The American Legion is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grass-roots involvement in the legislation process from local districts to Capitol Hill.

Legionnaires' sense of obligation to community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The Legion stands behind the issues most important to the nation's veterans community, backed by resolutions passed by volunteer leadership.
