Dear Family and Friends,
I am very excited to share with you all that I have been given the opportunity to travel to Jacmel, Haiti from May 16th to May 23rd, 2015 as part of a service learning initiative! I will be serving with a non-profit organization called Community Coalition for Haiti (CCH) and will be assisting anesthesiologists and gynecological surgeons in both their pre-op/post-op evaluations of patients and in surgery. Community Coalition for Haiti has been serving the medical needs of Haiti since 1989 and has since constructed a comprehensive medical clinic that allows clinicians to provide the Haitian population with free specialty surgical care that is otherwise unavailable throughout the country. In addition to surgical care, over the past 26 years CCH has cared for over 20,000 patients in its primary care clinic, developed a Child Wellness Program to provide education in hygiene, nutrition, vaccinations, and athletics, established a rural vaccination program, and is currently in the process of building a full time Dental Clinic. In a country where a majority of the inhabitants are unable to receive desperately needed medical treatments, programs like CCH offer both direct service and hope for future growth and establishment of a sustainable healthcare system. It is my goal to donate a week of my time to helping the CCH clinic provide for its patients, share my knowledge and kindness with the Haitian community, and grow as a more compassionate individual and future health care professional.
In order to embark on this journey, I need your help. I have set a fundraising goal of $2000 to cover the cost of the trip, including travel, housing, and food. Any amount that you can donate would be greatly appreciated! If you want to contribute to the service I will be giving in Haiti, please consider donating. Gifts of any amount can make a big difference.
