Weeks after Hurricane Maria tore through Puerto Rico, the US territory is in the grips of a serious, life-threatening crisis, with humanitarian aid getting in far more slowly than is needed.
The island is running short on food, fuel, and access to clean water and there’s limited communications, which means some communities have received no information about the rescue efforts underway.
In many places there’s still NO water to drink or bathe in or to flush toilets. There’s limited food and cell service, and dozens of remote villages have been completely cut off from everything for weeks.
This is still a terrible disaster that deserves more coverage and a better coordinated response — and both appear to have been impeded by widespread confusion about Puerto Rico’s relationship to the United States and the severity of its current situation. Therefore, several of us decide to adopt a few towns like Vega Baja, Ponce, Bayamon and Caguas.
So far the Sanctuary Church of North Brunswick, NJ have collected 2 Truck loads of food, water and other supplies. We have also managed to aquire a forty-eight foot shipping container to ship everything out Newark to San Juan. However, the container is still not full. We need to raise addtional funds to get our shipping logistics in order and finish packing the container so that we can bring these needed supplies to the Puerto Rican people.
We Still Need the following:
* Pay oceanic transportation fees
* Commcercial tranportaion fees
The Island will be without power for another 5 months and lots of people need power just to survive. PLEASE HELP!!!!
“The devastation is vast,” “Make no mistake — this is a humanitarian disaster involving 3.4 million U.S. citizens
