AGGB Birth Basket
A Goddess Garden Birth, LLC, owned by me, Shaila Sàmone. I am a certified Full Spectrum Doula, a certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist. My area of specialty is Traditional and Holistic childbirth. I’m originally from Queens, New York (NYC stand up) and I have resided in Atlanta Georgia for for over 13 years. Atlanta has helped shaped me to become the woman, entrepreneur, leader and advocate that stands before today. That is why, it is my pleasure to serve the families of the city every single day.
The Issue: In the United States as of 2020, well over 65 million families are living at or below the poverty level. A number incomprehensible to me quite frankly. With that many people who are barley making it through the days, what happens when these people have children? The hospitals in those areas are grossly underfunded, understaffed and ill-equipped to support them through all of there needs. Sadly, that includes the most basic of resources. The level of care provided is often subpar. These families obviously aren’t able to hire quality birth support and in my eyes, finances should never be a qualifier for care.
Our Call For Help: A Goddess Garden Birth, LLC is a small, one woman business. Though my passion and dedication feels like enough to save the whole world, I know that I need more than my passion and dedication. I and the families I serve need the help of the community, both local and around the world. It may sound cliche but there is so much truth in the statement that we are so much better together. So, I’m reaching out to ask that you gift what you can to help me provide free services, resources and basic necessities to the families of the community.
How Can YOU Help: We as a country are facing trying times and everyone is experiencing some sort of hardship but, helping doesn’t have to mean sacrificing. Here are ways you can help women and families receive support during one of the most sacred and scary parts of one’s life:
Become a AGGB Warrior by gifting $5-20 a month to our Birth Basket and learn how to advocate for people just like you.
- Those who gift monetarily (in whatever amount is on heart) will be recognized on our website and social media as official AGGB Warriors and will receive bi-weekly emails on the things being done to provide quality support. You will also receive information on ways you can support those efforts and a brief (non disclosing) synopsis on the actual people who are receiving help because of you.
- Gift services and resources (virtual and in-person) to AGGB that will help aid hundreds of families. Collaboration is a key cornerstone of change.
- Businesses who gift their services and resources will be recognized as official AGGB family and listed on our website as well as social media.
If you are located in the Atlanta area and have items that would benefit families in need, we do accept gently used diaper bags, baby clothes/shoes, toys, etc. with such gratitude.
- We ask that those who gift items include a message of empowerment and encouragement to whomever may receive their gift.
Become a AGGB Garden Guardian by joining forces online to help spread awareness, assist in fundraising and getting the word out about what AGGB is doing for the community.
Become a AGGB Ground Breaker by gifting $50 or more monthly. Unfortunately, we live in a world where money makes change and by receiving larger gifts, not only can we help more families but we can create programs, extend our reach, purchase new products to assist the families we support and support myself in obtaining further certification training to broaden the type of assistance I’m able to provide to those in need.
- Those who gift monetarily (in whatever amount is on heart) will be recognized on our website and social media as official AGGB Warriors and will receive bi-weekly emails on the things being done to provide quality support. You also receive updates on the trainings I’m in and pictures showing off what I was able to achieve due to your kindness.
Many hear “doula” and think it’s all snuggles and joy. While there are absolutely moments of pure and fulfilling joy, a majority of the work I do, advocating for black maternal health and the LGBTQIA+ community is not so pretty. This work is political, it is having to call a colleague at the end of the day to cry because of the disparities you’ve bared witness to, it is being exhausted and missing time with family. This work is receiving death threats and being treated with disrespect and disregard. Even with all that comes with this field of work, it is still my dream career and one I wouldn’t trade for the world. Everything is worth it when your clients are home, safe, healthy and snuggling with their precious new life.
From The Families of The Community and Myself: I first want to thank you for wanting to understand what my career and goals are and for any support you give. You may or may not understand how much mom's in the community need someone to be an advocate and voice for them when necessary and especially during a Pandemic. I can't do this alone and it does take a village to make this happen. No gift or donation is ever too small and is always a blessing because it all adds up to reaching the same goal. The families in the community would be forever greatful to be able not to have to worry about having a diaper bag or a car seat to go to doctor's appts or a simple warm baby blanket to snuggle in. It may seem like simple things to most, but for some it's not that simple or easy to come by. Again, thank you and continue following us along this journey.
