My name is Andrew Wallander, and I am a member of Boy Scout Troop 186 in Natrona Heights. I am seeking your support to help me with my Eagle Scout Project to support the Lower Valley Food Bank in Springdale, PA.
My project will provide families with nutritious recipes based on foods received from the Food Bank, spices – an often-overlooked donation and too expensive for families to purchase and a slow cooker to give them a safe and convenient cooking option.
As part of my project, I am required to request materials or donations to fund the project. To earn this rank, I must plan, develop and provide leadership to others in a service project helpful to the community.
I have chosen to help the Lower Valley Food Bank in Springdale for several reasons:
First, I have helped to collect food through the Scouting for Food program for many years and delivered food to the Food Bank. They feed 150 families every other week and are always grateful for our work and contributions each April.
Second, we live across the street from the Food Bank, and I have volunteered many times to help unload boxes of food, sorting, organizing and helping families carry food to their cars. The people served are always so grateful – and sometimes it’s hard for them to accept help – but we all need help sometimes. No one should go hungry.
Third, human dignity is important to me, and it is important to give all people an opportunity to provide warm, nutritious, flavorful meals to their families.
It is a big project that will require the expense of purchasing 150 slow cookers and expensive spices.
We are anticipating spending $3,750 for cookers and an additional $1,000 for spices to be used in recipes and flavoring.
I am humbly and respectfully asking you to consider making a gift of any amount to help purchase supplies for my project. If I should be fortunate enough to raise more than I need to complete this project, all additional funds will go directly to the Lower Valley Food Bank – helping many families.
