Humanitarian Trip: Nagpur, India

My Campaign:
My name is Jessica Anderson, I am a second grade teacher from Salt Lake City, Utah. This year I was given the opportunity to travel to Nagpur, India with an amazing organization to assist in development of . 
a vulnerable population half way around the world.

The organization that I will be traveling with is called HELP International and is based in Provo, Utah. The mission of HELP International is to empower people to fight global poverty through sustainable, life-changing development programs. Their unique model allows young professionals, and people in the field of education to contribute and catalyze the efforts of local partners on the ground. HELP has been traveling to locations around the world since 1999 and has a reputation for creating change while in country.

The programs that I would be directly impacting with my participation would include but are not limited to:
-Sexual and reproductive health lessons
-Drilling borewells in slum communities
-Awareness on unnecessary hysterectomies and child marriages
-Construction of latrines across slum communities
-Training seamstresses on skills to generate additional household income
-Women's health initiatives
-Community sanitation
-Water safety
-Empowerment of boys and girls
-Education.

The money being collected in this campaign will be going directly to pay for airfare traveling to and from india and the room and board necessary to live in country with the locals. I plan on being in country for two weeks in July/August and would need to have the funds raised by the end of June at the very latest.

The issues that the people of Nagpur, India and the surrounding areas are facing make this an undeniable opportunity. Working in areas of poverty with children in the United States through my teaching carreer has taught me that all children are our responsibility. My only hope on this journey is to impact the lives of children through development and education.
