Ten years ago, it all started with a simple idea: to connect people through the art of beatboxing, turning strangers into friends and creating a movement from our rhythm.

We were just a few friends beatboxing wherever we could, outside libraries, in food courts, even occasionally getting kicked out for being a little too loud, just to connect and share our love for the art. Over time, those small moments started to attract more beatboxers. What started as spontaneous meetups slowly expanded into a real community. That community became West Coast Groove - a beatboxing community founded by CiMaX, Canadian beatbox champ 2023.

Currently West Coast Groove is the largest ongoing beatboxing community in western Canada, but its growth has begun to overshadow our small team funding it. For years, our team has covered the costs of venues, equipment, and prizes out of pocket to keep it alive, but as the demand has increased, continued growth isn’t financially sustainable.

Our biggest goal for the community this year is throwing an international beatbox festival in the city of Vancouver. We want to bring together artists from different cultures to our community with an opportunity to connect and compete that is brand new to Western Canada. The festival will aim to include showcases from world renowned performers and feature a global competition welcoming international beatboxers.

Your donations, no matter how big or small, will help us secure proper venues, sound equipment, prize pools, and production, allowing beatbox artists the stage they deserve and bringing global recognition to Vancouver’s beatbox community.

Any support beyond our base goal goes directly back into the ecosystem, expanding monthly battles, beginner workshops, open cyphers, and student access throughout the year. Our aim isn’t just to run one event, but to keep the culture alive and make it easier for the next generation of beatboxers to step in, learn, and perform.
