Help Olga Get Back On Her Feet

Donation protected
Imagine you woke up and everything you own is gone. The years you spent building a life were taken in an instant by a thief in the night. That is exactly what happened to my mother-in-law, Olga.

After immigrating to this country, she began building a new life in America. Starting over wasn’t easy, but she was able to do so with the love and support of family and friends. Eventually, she met someone, and they began to build a new life together. However, a little over two years ago, he passed away, and she was once again faced with starting over.

Living alone, so far away from her daughter and grandchildren, took a toll. The decision was made to move from Florida to North Carolina to be with us. Two weeks ago, I went to help her pack up a U-Haul and drive Olga and her belongings up to Durham. En route, we stopped to rest overnight. The following morning as we headed out to leave, we discovered the truck was missing. We filed a police report and even watched the theft occur via surveillance footage. To say that watching someone steal your life’s possessions is difficult would be an understatement.

With nothing left to do, we were forced to finish our trip home empty-handed to Durham and await word of the truck being found. A few days later, the U-Haul was found; however, upon arriving to get it, we realized that most of her belongings were long gone. The little that remained was rummaged through and damaged.

Although we know and trust that God is with us and that much of the stuff that was in the truck is replaceable, it still leaves her in an unimaginable spot. Overnight, she lost everything she had, except for the small overnight bag she had carefully packed. The sentimental value of pictures and other items passed down from generations within the family will never be replaced.

My goal with this GoFundMe is to help her get back on her feet. My mother-in-law does not know I am setting this up and has not asked for help; but I know she needs it. My wife and I are helping her as much as possible, but replacing even a fraction of all that she lost is a daunting and costly task. The funds will help her purchase necessities like clothing, a bed, and other basic living items that we take for granted. All donations will go to my mother-in-law so she can acquire living essentials.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Olga’s story and considering how you can help. If you are not able to donate, sharing this with others is greatly appreciated.
