Some of you may already know the story of my nephew, but for those that don’t, I wanted to share his story with you.
The story of Harry, my nephew, our family’s hero.
In September 2022 Harry was diagnosed with sarcoma, a very aggressive tumour in his knee. In October 2022 Harry started intense chemo to shrink the tumor.
In Januray 2023, Harry then had to have his left leg amputated, which then followed by more months of chemo which he completed in June 2023 All the while harry dealt with this like a trooper. Harry then, was free of this cancer.....or so we thought.
8 months later Harry was eating a crisp and cut his gum, the cut formed into a lump and over 2 weeks the lump grew bigger. Harry went to the dentist, thinking it was an absess who referred him as he was concerned it was another tumour.
Our fears were confirmed, it was back the same aggressive tumour had returned, Harry now had that tumour in his jaw.
In April of this year Harry underwent a very intrusive and long 14 hour surgery to remove the tumour in his jaw, he had his top left hand side jaw removed, he then had bone and muscle from his shoulder inserted to create another jaw, Harry also had to have a tracheostomy. Unfortunately a few hours out of surgery, the dr noticed that there was no blood flow so Harry had to go back down for another long and intrusive 10 hour surgery, this time they took some muscle from his side as the bone in the jaw had rejected, so the muscle was to create some kind of wall… Harry as usual was amazing and was recovering well, after 3 weeks Harry got to go home all drains and Trachy was out… Harry was finally in recovery.
6 weeks later, Harry went for an appointment, he was then told that even though the surgery went well, they was not able to remove all the tumor as it was too close to his skull ....then we had to wait for the next move.
Tuesday 17th June Harry went to see his consultant, he was told that to remove the tumor left would be a major, major op and one wrong move could leave him paralysed. She them spoke about what would be best for Harry with either chemo or radiotherapy, but also said that radio could slow down hospital healing process on his face. More discussions was had and Harry had the option of waiting until August, having more scans etc and then go from there. In the meantime the consultant advised Harry carry on doing his exersises, get into a daily routine and basically live his life. This is where I come in..
Harry is 22 years old, gone through more than most people in a lifetime, he has always had it hard being adhd, add and autistic, his life being had been full of hospital appointments! Harry managed to pass his driving test finally in March 2024, but unfortunately because of the latest surgery he has yet to be able to drive a car or even buy one now due to not being able to work, as we all know statuary sick pay is not great. Harry does have money towards his car the car of his dreams, he is just short by £1500.
I'm not asking for a fortune but I am kindly asking if anyone can help, nothing is too small and would be greatly appreciated to make this boys dream come true, he most definitely deserves it, and to allow him to be able to live his life a little as he has been unable to until now, to give him some freedom, sense of purpose, mostly to make him smile and excited, to give him the spur on to make that next fight….
I know times are hard, but anything can help him right now, and as a family we would be exceptionally grateful if you could help our hero finally have a bit of happiness…
Unfortunately there is still not a cure for sarcoma, it is a very rare bone cancer, we are hoping and praying one will be found, but unfortunately no one knows a lot about it, we have to rely right now on hope, faith and medicine, that Harry will get better!
Thank you for reading Harry’s story!
