Support laid off TVO workers
Donation protected
We are raising funds for 16 laid off TVO-Canadian Media Guild members. TVO cruelly laid off these journalism and education workers right before the holidays. The cuts effectively end most text-based journalism at the organization, severing public-service journalism across Ontario’s regions. All donations will be distributed to these laid off workers so they can continue to pay for housing, utilities, food, medication and other necessities.
These 16 TVO workers spent their careers helping people in Ontario make sense of the issues affecting them, from the opioid crisis to the housing shortage and more.
This round of layoffs is a huge blow to Canadian media and we want to support these workers since TVO decided to kick them to the curb right before the holidays.
It's no secret journalism is under attack. Last year, TVO-CMG members went on strike to fight for fair pay and working conditions — this is exactly the kind of courageous action we need Canadian media workers to take. Their fight helped raise the bar for the whole industry and now it's our turn to give back.
Please consider donating to support these workers in their time of need.
All funds will be disbursed to laid off TVO CMG members.
*This is a grassroots mutual aid effort. Funds to support laid off workers are collected independently from the Canadian Media Guild*
