Hi my name is Julett
Hurricane Melissa has destroyed our family home in New Town, Black River, St Elizabeth ,Jamaica, leaving us without a safe place to live. The storm tore through our community, damaging homes and livelihoods. Our family home, which has been a place of love and memories for generations, is now almost uninhabitable.
My 72 year old sister lives alone in the house - with the aid of tarpaulin and ply boards she’s currently living and sleeping on the verandah( patio) as that’s the only place that can accommodate her temporarily. She cannot carry out repairs herself, and the loss has left her vulnerable. Rebuilding is not just about restoring walls — it’s about giving her back safety, dignity, and stability in her later years.
We are asking for your support to rebuild. Our target is J$3,000,000 (≈ £14,500 / $18,700). Every donation will go directly toward:
• Structural check: Professional assessment to ensure the foundation and design are safe.
• Materials: Concrete blocks, steel, cement, and roofing slabs (we are using concrete slabs instead of zinc sheets to ensure the house is hurricane resistant and long lasting). By choosing stronger materials, we are not just rebuilding — we are protecting our family against future storms.
• Labour: Skilled builders and construction workers.
Your kindness is helping us create a safe, durable home. Thank you for your compassion.
We’ve included photos and video of the house before and after the hurricane, so you can see the damage firsthand. Your support — whether through a donation or by sharing this campaign — brings us closer to restoring safety, stability, and hope.
Thank you for standing with us.
