Why I’m Running for St. Mark’s Universal Care:
Hi everyone! This year I’m running my first ever marathon this year in April in Manchester (as well as the 1/2 marathon in Manchester this October) to support St. Mark’s Universal Care—a charity that’s really close to my heart. Last year, I went to Naqada, Egypt to volunteer with them. I spent time teaching kids English—helping with pronunciation, reading aloud, and writing—and I also got to see the schools they’ve helped build and the hospitals that are now being developed. It was such a powerful experience, and I left knowing I wanted to do more to support their mission.
What They’ve Achieved So Far:
St. Mark’s Universal Care is all about giving communities access to healthcare, education, and dignity. What I love most is that they serve everyone—no matter their ethnicity, race, religion, age, gender, or background. If someone is in need, they step in. They serve disadvantaged communities in Egypt, North Africa and the Middle East.
Some of their amazing projects so far include:
- Over 70 000 prescriptions given out to people with chronic illnesses.
- 3 healthcare centers and 1 polyclinic in Faqous
- 4000+ mobility and medic devices
- 2000+ operations
- Hospitals and clinics under construction, like the new Qous International Hospital
- Funding for schools and education, giving children the chance to build brighter futures.
- The Kimi Academy- a teaching hospital and academy in partnership with RCSI
- Community projects in the UK
- Several Christmas and summer mission trips
- Specialist centers for children with learning disabilities
- Funded a research library at the children’s cancer hospital in Cairo
I saw with my own eyes how their work changes lives—kids learning confidently in classrooms, families getting medicine, and whole communities having hope for the future.
