Hot Meals for the Homeless

For the last two months, Christian Care Homeless Shelter in Rock Island, Illinois has been serving sack lunches twice a day, but there is always a need for hot meals. The shelter has a community meal site for anyone who is hungry. The goal is 190 meals, which would provide a hot meal to everyone at the shelter for an estimated four days. These aren't just any hot meals -- they are from Pee Wee's restaurant, a local treasure. 

Pee Wee's restaurant in Rock Island, Illinois has been kind enough to customize a combination meal for $10.53 featuring 2 pieces of chicken (one thigh and one leg), mac and cheese, green beans, and cornbread. The $10.53 covers the cost of this meal from Pee Wee's ($10.23) + the $.30 processing fee for each donation that GoFundMe charges. Any additional processing fees will be eaten up by a kind donor, so no meals will be sacrificed simply because of a processing fee.

There is a tradition of service and giving in the Quad Cities, and now is no different. Everyone deserves a quality, hot meal -- and while many folks are struggling to get by, donations of any size will help ensure as many people are fed as possible.

This campaign will last two weeks, and the Christian Care Homeless Shelter will then work with Pee Wee's to receive the meals for the shelter. 

I know the Quad Cities community is generous -- and even in this difficult and devastating time for so many, those who can, should rally for the community and ensure incredible hot meals to those in need.

At the conclusion of the two week campaign, I will withdraw funds raised and write a check for the exact amount raised to Christian Care Shelter. The Shelter will then work with Pee Wee's on the meals in terms of the best mode of delivery and how to make the most of the meals.
