We’re fundraising for Cecilia and her two beautiful daughters. Our goal is to get them into a safe living situation. Cecilia legally immigrated her family from Cuba to Florida roughly 18 months ago. What was supposed to be a great new start and opportunity has turned out to be a nightmare. After a few weeks, her husband left Cecilia and her daughters stranded on the street with nowhere to go and no one to call. They literally slept on the sidewalk for a few days until they found somewhere to go. They bounced around wherever the could find a room for a few months. Last July, Cecilia started working at Publix in Hialeah and enrolled her daughters in the local school. Her day consists of walking her daughters to school, walking to Publix to work while they’re in school, walking back to school to pick them up and then walking home together rain or shine. She’s very limited financially because she can only work while her daughters are in school. She literally only has her Publix family here to help her with her daughters. Their current living arrangement is nothing more than a tiny room in a trailer with a tiny bathroom not much bigger than one in an airplane. They sleep on bunkbeds, there is mold growing on the ceiling from an apparent roof leak, there is cardboard stuffed into the floorboard to cover holes and then a portion of the bathroom floor is completely separating from the trailer and is being covered by a little rug. It is completely unsafe. On top of all of this, she gets zero child support and her food stamp amount was just cut in half because she’s working about 30 hours per week. She’s being penalized for working hard and that is what is keeping her in this situation. I can’t stress enough that it is not a lack of effort on her part at all. Cecilia is an amazing single mom who does everything that she possibly can for her family. She wakes up and faces this overwhelming battle everyday. And not only that, she is ALWAYS positive, ALWAYS smiling and extremely grateful for what she does have. She’s an inspiration to all of us with the way she keeps charging through each day to the next. This situation would’ve broken most people a long time ago and she’s now going on two years of this. She needs our help. We have been reaching out to multiple local organizations and have just been getting the runaround. Every time we think we’re about to get some sort of assistance, we run into a roadblock which is why we’re starting this go fund me.
