Friends and family,
My son, Neo, has been studying Mandarin since he began high school. The program at Berkeley High is magnificent. It is run by an amazing woman who works tirelessly at setting up opprtunities for her students to travel to China and operate as student ambassadors. It is Neo's most challenging class and he loves it.
This spring the teacher has scheduled a trip to Taiwan where the students will interact with a local high school there that focuses on visual and performance arts. Many of the BHS students that participate in these travel opportunities go on to higher involvement in ambassador work between our country and China. This is Neo's dream.
Folks who study languages know that the immersion process is instrumental in mastering a language. Immersion is also a key component for Neo as he struggles with a learning disability - a delayed auditory comprehension. Being constantly surrounded by the spoken language he is studying will strengthen Neo's skills with Mandarin and will serve as a positive reinforcement.
Two days ago I learned that the resources that were to cover the trip for Neo were no longer available. I have two weeks to pull the funds together and I am asking for your help.
Neo has worked very hard to earn this travel experience. The excitement in his eyes and his bright smile mean the world to me.
Please help me make this happen for my kid.
Any amount helps.
