Help the Stokes family

On December 17th 2021 after a routine visit to the optometrist 2 days prior, our friend Darren Stokes was diagnosed with a rare slow growing but rapid spreading cancer in his right eye.

Christmas was cancelled as the following weeks appointments to specialists for various scans & tests and treatment would begin all in Perth.

This meant trudy would begin driving regularly to Perth weekly & fortnightly sometimes requiring accommodation where he needed to be isolated (not covered on our health care)

Then in February surgeries and radiation treatment started at Royal Perth as that is the only hospital in WA equipped to do the surgery required on the tumour in his eye.

A total of 17 Special Radioactive seeds were imported from America that would be surgically placed into his right eye after the muscles were cut and retina detached.

Results from CT scan & a biopsy taken for study by various universities have indicated a secondary cancer so Darren has been referred to a second team of specialists in early May to begin

the treatment on his body (separate to the ongoing treatment in eye)

Luckily the hospital surgeries have been free however specialists, scans, tests, travel, accommodation and various other expenses have really been difficult.

Darren has not been able to work since the initial diagnosis in December and Trudy only doing minimal hours for her own graphics / signage business she had just started in November after they both lost their full time jobs due to Covid In October.

As luck would have it on Christmas eve the washing machine died, a week later during a heatwave the ducted air con decided to stop working (needing new filters quoted @$1200plus labour) and then the kitchen fridge freezer died.

Darren and Trudy lost Darren's dad Dennis only a year ago after caring for him for nearly 2 years and both mums have also passed so they don't have parents to help with anything at a time when you need them most.

Mortgage is on hold, Trudy has sold her car, the bills keep coming so we want to help them out. There are a couple of ways to assist.
