Hello,
We are raising money to help offset the cost of our adoption. We will be forever grateful if you decide to donate and if you can't just keeping us in your thoughts as we go through this process, which can be long both physically and mentally.
Adoption changed my husband's life. Robert was adopted from the foster care system when he was a baby. Four of his nieces and nephews are adopted. We want to continue this beautiful legacy in the Seals' family as we adopt our first child.
Adoption isn't just the legacy of our family; it's the legacy of the church. "But when the set time had fully come, God sent His son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption. So you are no longer a slave, but God's child; and since you are His child, God has made you also an heir." Galatians 4:4-5 & 7 We are adopting locally (from Nebraska or Iowa) through Lutheran Family Services' Infant Adoption Program. The unique thing about this program is that it is an open adoption. That means the adoptive parents and adopted child know the birth parents. The goal is to build a relationship with the birth family for the benefits it brings to the adopted child's development. We believe this relationship gives us a unique opportunity to share God's love with our child and his or her birth family.
Another reason open adoption is meaningful to us is that I, Alex, just found out my mom has a half-sister who was given up for adoption at birth. My aunt only recently, in her 50s, learned that she was adopted. My grandma passed away and had never revealed the secret of a half-sister to my mom. My grandpa and my great-aunt hadn't told my mom about her half-sister either. They found each other serendipitously through 23 & Me. Closed, secretive adoption kept my aunt and my mom from knowing each other, as well as keeping my aunt from knowing her family history. In an open adoption, my child will have access to information about his or her genetics and to the birth family who can tell stories about their culture and history.
Overall, this adoption process will cost about $12,000. We are so grateful for your support and generosity!
