Freiwilligendienst in Tansania

Hallo :)

ich bin Hanna, 19 Jahre alt und besuche momentan noch die Max-Brauer-Schule in Hamburg. Vor Kurzem habe ich alle Abiturprüfungen geschrieben und somit meine 13 jährige Schullaufbahn endgültig abgeschlossen. Nicht nur diverse Verwandte, Freunde und Fremde, aber auch jede/r Abiturient*in stellt sich selbst die Frage: „Was dann?“.

Für mich war die Antwort schon lange sehr klar: ich möchte raus, aktiv unterstützen und mitwirken. Vor kurzer Zeit hatte ich dann das Glück und die DTP (Deutsch-Tansanische Partnerschaft) hat mich als Freiwillige in ihr Programm aufgenommen. Das heißt für mich:

EIN JAHR FREIWILLIGENDIENST FÜR DEN UMWELTSCHUTZ IN TANSANIA

Was heißt das genau?

Ich werde im Rahmen eines Weltwärts - Jahres für 12 Monate in Tansania an einem ökologischen Projekt mitwirken. Die DTP organisiert Freiwilligenprogramme in Tansania und Deutschland mit dem Ziel der Völkerverständigung, des Umwelt- und Klimaschutzes, der Bildung und des nachhaltigen Engagements. Den Herausforderungen des Klimawandels, Umweltthemen und der globalen Gerechtigkeit soll möglichst ganzheitlich und interdisziplinär begegnet sowie soziale, ökologische und kulturelle Aspekte respektiert werden. Hierbei handelt es sich um eine sehr kleine Organisation. Mit der DTP gehen insgesamt 16 Personen nach Tansania und ich darf eine von ihnen sein! Durch das Spezialisieren auf ein Land und den Fokus auf eine kleine Personengruppe werde ich sowohl vor, während als auch nach dem Jahr durch diverse Seminare sowie einen intensiven Kiswahili-Sprachkurs unterstützt und begleitet.

Wie wird mein Alltag Vorort aussehen?

In Tansania werde ich bei einer Gastfamilie leben, was mir einen besseren Zugang zu der Kultur und Sprache verschafft. Ansonsten werde ich bei der Nichtregierungsorganisation Zaba (Zanzibar beekeeping association) auf Sansibar mitarbeiten. Diese kleine Organisation kümmert sich um eine Bienenzucht mit offenen Bienenstöcken in den Mangrovenwäldern (eine nachhaltige Art der Imkerei, solange die Waben geerntet werden ohne die Bienen zu töten). Die meisten Einwohner Sansibars leben von weniger als 1 US-Dollar pro Tag, was Sansibar zu eine der ärmsten Regionen Tansanias macht. Das Hauptziel des Imkereiprojekts auf Sansibar ist die Verbesserung der Situation der armen Familien, indem ihr Einkommen durch die Bienenzucht um 25% gesteigert wird. Zudem möchte Zaba für die Bedeutung der Honigbienenbestäubung sensibilisieren, um das Töten von Wildbienenvölkern zu verhindern.

Wofür werden die Spenden benötigt?

Ein weltwärts-Jahr mit der DTP kostet für 12 Monate pro Teilnehmer*in insgesamt 11.736 Euro.

Das Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung

(BMZ) hat den Weltwärts-Dienst Anfang 2008 ins Leben gerufen und unterstützt

anerkannte Entsendeorganisationen wie die DTP mit bis zu 75% der Gesamtkosten.

25% der Kosten sind von den Entsendeorganisationen selbst zu zahlen d.h. 2.934 Euro pro Freiwilligen sind nicht gedeckt. Auch nicht mit einberechnet sind dabei die Kosten für die Seminare und für meine Arbeitserlaubnis (insgesamt 1.000 bis 1.500 Euro) welche ich als Eigenbetrag zusätzlich bezahle.

In diesen 2.934 Euro sind notwendige Kosten wie u.a. Flugtickets, Verpflegung, Unterkunft, und Versicherungen mit einberechnet. Da es sich bei der DTP um eine kleine Organisation handelt, welche auch noch andere Projekte ermöglicht, wie z.B. ein Soziales Jahr in Deutschland für Menschen aus Tansania, ist die Organisation dringend auf einen Anteil von 2.350 Euro pro Freiwillige*r angewiesen, um auch in Zukunft weiterhin solche Projekte finanzieren zu können.

Hiermit möchte ich euch motivieren das Projekt zu unterstützen. Ihr würdet mir diese besondere Erfahrung ermöglichen, unterstützt die DTP, damit diese auch weiterhin solche großartigen Projekte verwirklichen kann und leistet mit der Unterstützung einen Beitrag für den Umweltschutz und für verbesserte Lebensumstände in einem der ärmsten Länder der Welt.

I'm Hanna, 19 years old and I'm currently still attending the Max-Brauer-School in Hamburg. In half a year I will have written all my Abitur exams and thus finally completed my 13-year school career. Not only various relatives, friends and strangers but also every high school graduate asks himself/herself the question: "What then?".

For me, the answer has been very clear for a long time: I want to get out, actively support and participate. A short time ago I was lucky and the DTP (German-Tanzanian-Partnership) accepted me as a volunteer in their program. This means for me:

ONE YEAR OF VOLUNTARY SERVICE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN TANZANIA

What does that mean exactly?

I will be working on an ecological project in Tanzania for 12 months as part of a "Weltwärts" year. The DTP organizes volunteer programs in Tanzania and Germany with the aim of international understanding, environmental and climate protection, education and sustainable engagement. The challenges of climate change, environmental issues and global justice are to be addressed as holistically and interdisciplinary as possible and social, ecological and cultural aspects are to be respected. This is a very small organization. With the DTP, a total of 16 people are going to Tanzania and I will be one of them! By specializing in one country and focusing on a small group of people, I am supported and accompanied before, during and after the year by various seminars as well as an intensive Kiswahili language course.

What will my everyday life be like on site?

In Tanzania, I will live with a host family, which will give me better access to the culture and language. Otherwise, I will work with the non-governmental organization Zaba (Zanzibar beekeeping association) on Zanzibar. This small organization takes care of beekeeping with open hives in the mangrove forests (a sustainable way of beekeeping as long as the honeycombs are harvested without killing the bees). Most of the inhabitants of Zanzibar live on less than 1 US dollar per day, making Zanzibar one of the poorest regions in Tanzania. The main goal of the beekeeping project in Zanzibar is to improve the situation of poor families by increasing their income by 25% through beekeeping. In addition, Zaba wants to raise awareness about the importance of honey bee pollination to prevent the killing of wild bee colonies.

What are the donations needed for?

A weltwärts year with the DTP costs a total of 11,736 euros per participant* for 12 months.

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development

(BMZ) launched the weltwärts service at the beginning of 2008 and supports recognized sending organizations such as the DTP with up to 75% of the total costs.

25% of the costs have to be paid by the sending organizations themselves i.e. 2.934 Euro per volunteer are not covered. Also not included are the costs for the seminars and my work permit (a total of 1,000 to 1,500 euros) which I pay additionally as my own contribution.

These 2,934 euros include necessary costs such as airline tickets, food, accommodation and insurance. Since the DTP is a small organization, which also enables other projects, such as a social year in Germany for people from Tanzania, the organization is urgently dependent on a share of 2,350 euros per volunteer, to be able to continue to finance such projects in the future.
