Please watch this amazing story and share with others. This particular story of these San Antonio kids is amazing! I viewed this story when it first aired in early April. Upon watching it I realized that I have seen these kids before. They are a product of SAISD and my Longfellow MS community. I am currently one of 3 band directors at Longfellow Middle School and the middle child not pictured in this story is a student of mine. I felt so proud when watching. You see I teach at a title 1 school. I know first hand the struggles that some of our students go through daily.
My Principal spoke of this family at one of our zoom meetings a few weeks ago and we were given their contact information as well from one of our Spanish Teachers.
We are all required to wear masks now in public so I decided to make contact with the family to order some masks.
As I turned into the street where the family resides my eyes immediately locked on a white totaled suburban parked in front of a home. I thought to myself please do not let this be their home. Sure enough it was. As the eldest child came out to hand me the masks which I purchased I asked what had happened. She in turn told me that the family had been hit by a drunk driver. The family was on their way to drop off ordered masks and that is when the accident occurred. Thankfully the family is ok. Their only vehicle on the other hand is destroyed. My heart just hurts for this family. Here they have been working daily since this COVID-19 Pandemic begin to do good and give to our SA community and to have this major set back.
I know we are all going through hardship right now and this may not be possible for some. If anyone can donate to this family please do so as I intend to do so myself. Thank you
