Leeds Baby Bank - urgent fundraiser to help more families
At least 40,000 children in Leeds now live in poverty. This is a devastating number and the reason Leeds Baby Bank now has a record number of families asking for support.
Leeds Baby Bank was founded in 2017 to ensure that no child goes without. In that time we have provided essential food, clothing and bedding to thousands of the vulnerable families across Leeds.
So that we can help more families and children in need we really need your support.
Recently we supported a mother with a one year old who was referred to us because she didn’t have a bed or any bedding for her daughter to sleep in. Thanks to kind donations we were able to provide a bed, a duvet, unicorn-patterned bedding and a mattress. This little girl now has a safe and warm place to sleep every night.
However, we have recently had to make the heartbreaking decision to close our waiting list as over 200 families now wait for help.
In July we hope to move to bigger premises in Armley, but we still need to purchase essential materials to make it safe to move into. This includes warehouse racking to house donated items and large tables for volunteers to safely sort donations.
We need to raise £60,000 to help us open our new premises so that we can help the families across Leeds who need us now.
Once we’re in our new home we’ll be able to:
- Receive and store thousands more donated items that will go straight to the families that need them – items including bedding, prams and clothing.
- Invite families to come and pick the items they need – allowing them the dignity of choice.
- Recruit more incredible volunteers who will help us manage the donated goods and get the busy referral list processed.
- Provide a space for groups to be held – including toddler and First Aid – which will combat isolation and help families build essential skills.
- Offer advocacy support to families including housing, employment and financial.
Every single donation brings us closer to opening the doors to our new home and to ensure that no child in Leeds goes without.
