Burren Chernobyl Project

I am travelling to Goradische orphanage in Belarus for a week in August. The orphanage is home to 220 children and adults with special needs. I will be volunteering with Burren Chernobyl Project, a charity which was set up in 1993 to help with the fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Volunteers at Goradische orphanage help support orphanage staff in caring for the residents. Volunteers also provide invaluable support in terms of organising activities for children including massage, arts and crafts activities, sports activities, cookery and music among others.

Funds are always useful in helping to provide medicine, nappies or repairs to the building. Fundraised money also enables volunteers to treat the children to day trips to the local town, a very memorable experience for these residents who spend most of their days in the orphanage.
