I'm Marie, and I'm raising funds for my friend Cindy Chan, a longtime 97Rock radio personality, who is facing a difficult combination of circumstances and needs help finding a safe new home.

After nearly 12 years in her current home, Cindy is facing the difficult reality that she needs to move.
The building she has been living in has deteriorated badly. The roof leaks, water has gotten into the walls, portions of the walls are separating from the structure, and siding has fallen away. There is mold and mildew from the water damage, squirrels have gotten into the walls and ceilings, and there are electrical problems that need attention. The landlord has told her that the necessary repairs cannot be made while she is living there and wants her to leave.
Finding another home would be difficult for anyone, but Cindy is facing this situation at a particularly challenging time in her life.
She has also recently lost her job because of circumstances beyond her control, including political changes that affected her workplace. After years of working—including a long career in Buffalo radio—she found herself unemployed again at 71. Finding another job has been difficult, and this loss came at exactly the wrong time.
Cindy is also dealing with significant ongoing health issues that affect her everyday life and her expenses. Her diet is extremely restricted, and she has to prepare most of her food herself using fresh ingredients. She can't simply rely on inexpensive prepared foods or regularly eat at restaurants. These are expenses she has to manage every day, regardless of her financial situation. Then there is the mini-stroke.
Now she needs to find a safe place to live and pay the costs associated with getting there: a security deposit and rent, movers, transportation, possible storage, and the many smaller expenses that come with moving an established household.
Cindy has worked hard throughout her life and has built a community of people who know her, particularly from her years in radio. She is asking that community for help now because several difficult circumstances have come together at once, leaving her in a position where she can't manage the cost of starting over on her own.
Any amount will help. If you know Cindy, remember her from her radio days, or simply want to help someone who is trying to get through a very difficult period, your contribution can help her get into a safe home and give her some breathing room while she gets back on her feet.
If you can't contribute, sharing this fundraiser is also a tremendous help.
Thank you for taking the time to read Cindy's story and for helping in any way you can.
