Kayla is Trying to Move On

Donation protected
Kayla has been dealing with the experience and aftermath of an abusive relationship since 2016, when she met her now ex-girlfriend. The abuse continued throughout their co-ownership of a coffee shop in Colorado. 2 incidents of the physical abuse during their business relationship resulted in Emergency Room care, and 1 incident resulted in the destruction of her vehicle's windshield. Kayla has since blocked her from all Social Media and removed methods of contact to mitigate her stalking and abuse. During the process of dissolving the company and liquidating remaining profits and assets, Kayla left Colorado to stay with a friend of a friend across the country. Her ex has since stalked her via Social Media, reported directly to Kayla that she knew where she was, repeatedly demanded to know if Kayla was sleeping with anyone she was staying with, and violated a Cease and Desist by entering Kayla's residence and removing $7000 worth of co-owned equipment.  Both the Police and Local Courts have dismissed this harrassment and continued abuse as minor and non-legal issues. Kayla's ex has not even been ordered to return a garage door opener belonging to Kayla, which gives her continued access to Kayla's Home in Colorado. It is unfortunately not uncommon for our legal system and society to dismiss issues of domestic abuse and violence in the LGBTQ+ community, but these incidents are no less severe or impactful- and Kayla understandably does not feel safe, secure, or supported in Colorado. In addition to all of this, Kayla has a heart condition and is trying to relocate across the country in the midst of a pandemic that places her at a high risk. At this point, Kayla has not seen any unemployment income since the shop closed doors in April as a result of the pandemic, and she does not expect to in the near future if at all.  We are raising funds to cover the cost of safely moving her belongings from Colorado to New England, with a stretch goal of being able to move her plants as well. She has been quoted $2000-$2300 to move the remainder of her possessions from her Home in Colorado to her new support network in New England. Please give what you can, share where you can, and help this girl get on stable ground and begin to heal.
