Hi there, my name is Taylor Weems, a second-year psychology major with a double minor in sociology and women's studies on the pre-med track at the University of Georgia.
Being born and raised in Mableton, Georgia, one sees the bright areas where the sun shines and where other areas are still shaded. As a little girl, I recall seeing the few sleeping on the streets, without a home, without those that care enough to notice. However, I've noticed a spike in those sleeping on sidewalks. There are more people struggling outside your house and out of one's view. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs announced that 12,000 Georgians experience homelessness on any given night, a number that has seen fluctuations since 2024. Yet, it's non-profit organizations such as Bigger Vision who shed light on this issue, that will open their doors to a family struggling with open arms.
Thankfully, I've been blessed enough to see such an initiative and be a part of it. While I attend Bigger Vision, a homeless shelter based in Athens, GA, it's encouraged me to craft a mission of my own. One that I can take home with me to be the change I want to see in my hometown.
In addition, inspired by the social action mandated program of the Beta Zeta chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, I chose the Bigger Vision as my foundation of choice. The Bigger Vision advocates for homelessness awareness and brightening prospects for this demographic.
Bigger Vision has become a bigger part of my life, and in donating we can reach this vision we all can see!
