Support My Jamaican Family Devastated by Hurricane Melissa

Donation protected
Hiiii, I’m Candice Vernon, a Jamaican-born filmmaker residing in Los Angeles, CA. Jamaica is my homeland, my family spans St. Ann, St. James, and St. Andrew. Hurricane Melissa, a category 5 Hurricane with winds at 185mph, Jamaica’s strongest on record, has devastated my family and loved ones. The hurricane has left them in crisis: crops wiped out, roofs torn off, windows shattered, and power still out in many areas.

Rural aid is very slow and food is running low. I’m raising funds to get immediate food/water/solar kits to my relatives, especially the most vulnerable of them all, my elderly grand-uncle Frank, who is in his late 80s. We need to secure emergency roof and window materials, and help restart the crops so the community can feed itself again.

My family is pulling together what we can. As an independent filmmaker, this year my work hasn’t generated much income, so I’m asking for help to move quickly on essentials for the most affected households. I’ll share transparent updates and photos, so every donor sees the impact.

Thank you for your help in advance! May God bless every one who finds it in their heart to give what they can.
