Bailey showed up on our property emaciated. We believe she was dumped. She is an 8 month old, 20 pound Golden Retriever/Irish setter mix. She should be about 40 pounds. We have had her since the 14th. Took her to the vet on the 16th and they checked for microchip, tattoos, we posted about her and looked for posts about a missing dog and to no avail. She is heartworm negative. We have adopted her. Gotten her up to date on everything. Microchipped. $800 worth.
But here’s the deal. Bailey has gotten way worse than she was initially. Her platelets were at 260 and are now at 50. She cannot keep anything down including water along with diarrhea. We took her back to the vet today, 6/20/25, tested for parvo and giardia and she tested negative. They have recommended to hospitalize her. IV fluids today and possible blood transfusion tomorrow. They said they can’t really give me a quote on price because it’s taking it day by day. They said worst case could be around $1500 or best case about $600-$700. We paid the $600 deposit today.
Update: 6/23- Bailey is home and overall vet bill cost was about $2100. We put this on a care credit card that we had just paid off.
I hate to ask for help and I know it is nobody’s responsibility to help her. I wish money was no object. If anyone feels that they want to help contribute in any way, it is appreciated! She is currently at Youngs Animal Hospital in Hillsboro.
