Bijoy Bhushan Debnath died on 27 July 2021. He had a heart attack while he was receiving dialysis.
He left behind his two orphaned daughters, who are unbelievably helpless now. Both are students. All their maternal relatives are in India and none even responded at their father's death news, while all their paternal relatives are too poor and are unable to help the orphaned girls. As Debnath had been going through kidney dialysis and other treatments last few years, they are left almost penniless and completely alone in the world.
We, present and former colleagues of WorldFish, are trying to raise funds to support these two girls so they can feed and study until they can stand on their own two feet. As you can imagine the government in Bangladesh is unable to take care of all the children who need help. We can only do the least possible with small donations so they can at least support themselves until they are able to complete studies and get jobs.
You may know, in Bangladesh, women and young girls security are an issue. Being orphaned with no guardians to look after them, these 2 young girls are even more vulnerable. We are hoping the donated money can also be used to find them safe shelter
The girls are just 19 and 18 and they live by themselves. It sounds like they are almost adults, but in Dhaka girls are even more vulnerable at that age. They cant just go and get a job, jobs are not easy to get in Dhaka, especially for girls. Without a proper guardian, they are immensely vulnerable. The Police, Gov welfare, social services and free healthcare are all non-existent, so I cant even explain to you what that feels like. If something happens, you cant go to the police cuz they will not help you without knowing how much bribe they will get. Hospitals will not admit a penniless girl who cant pay admission fees. There is no one they can call, since as they are a certain religion, they are seen as a burden, so their relatives have stopped communicating with them. Two Apu's from work are in touch with them, but due to the pandemic and lock downs they are unable to do a lot. Their mother passed away about 4 years ago. I cant share too much medical details or their pics due to privacy reasons.
We request anyone who reads this to help support two children, who need help now more than ever.
