Help raise money for my gap year!

I'm currently on a gap year and I'd like to fundraise for two causes that are close to my heart: The Alzheimer's Society and the Costa Rica Plastic Oceans Project (where I intend to participate as a volunteer).

My Grandmother suffers from Alzheimer's and this charity makes such a difference; with help it could, in time, prevent others from experiencing this awful disease. Improving our environment is a cause that I feel passionate about too. Plastic sticks around in the environment for ages, threatening wildlife and spreading toxins. The Plastic Ocean Project is a community-led project which focuses on finding unique and dynamic solutions to counteract the plastic washed up on beaches. This is a relentless battle and involves a range of solutions including beach clean ups, the creation of recycling stations and turning micro plastics into stylish home wares. During my six- week placement, I will have the privilege of helping Costa Rican communities in their quest to limit the amount of plastic on their beaches. In addition to this I will also volunteer working at local turtle sanctuaries where I will help with hatchery maintenance and nest relocation.

I am working hard at my local pub to pay for my flights to Costa Rica but I need to raise additional funds to participate on the Project. I plan to do a physical challenge to raise funds and will walk 30 miles around the military training area on Salisbury Plain along the Imber Range Perimeter Path. This is a challenging walk over mixed terrain. I hope to start at my old primary school in Heytesbury and with the support of my military father (which will be a challenge in itself!) complete the walk around a piece of land, which he has spent many, many nights camping out on, in under 12 hours!
