Fr. Jim Fitz Tractor Run, 2022

Donation protected
After last year's great success, the Fr. Jim Fitz Tractor Run is back for 2022! The primary aim of this Tractor Run is to raise funds for two fantastic charities; FirstLight and Jack & Jill. Both charities have strong connections to the local community and both benefitted hugely from the event last year, receiving €16,500 each.

FirstLight is a national organisation that provides crisis intervention and free professional counselling services throughout Ireland to bereaved parents and family members who have suddenly lost a child up to 18 years. In addition to providing this essential bereavement support, they also promote training for frontline professionals who encounter bereaved parents and families, promote research into child mortality and on-going support services for parents and siblings who have lost a child. In 2011, Barry O’Malley died suddenly at just 5 weeks old. Amidst our devastation, FirstLight provided us, his parents, with essential support, house visits, counselling, and a support network when we needed it most. To express our gratitude, we established the Barry O' Malley Fund in his memory in 2020. This fund was set up to support FirstLight in providing free professional counselling support to other suddenly bereaved families across county Wexford. Any support provided here, will go directly to this fund & support families throughout Wexford, who are experiencing a time of exceptional grief. Deirdre & Jim O’Malley, Ferns

Jack & Jill provide in-home nursing care and respite support for children up to the age of 6, with a range of neurodevelopmental issues including brain injury, genetic diagnosis and severe cerebral palsy. They also provide end of life care for children under the age of 6. Their unique model of child and family centred care gives the parent carer a break from the intensive home-care regime required for a child who needs round the clock care. Our son Cathal was born in 2017. He is a fun-loving little boy, with a great laugh and a big interest in tractors. However, he was born with a major brain injury and as a result he is non-verbal, has level 5 spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and suffers from a severe form of epilepsy. Jack & Jill have supported us in our day-to-day lives with Cathal since he was six months old. They help us to provide home and nursing care for him when necessary. This minimises hospital stays and helps us to keep Cathal as healthy as possible. Jack & Jill allow our family to function with minimal disruptions. They give us the gift of time, allowing us to keep up with the day-to-day tasks of running a family, such as doing the groceries, attending appointments, and bringing our other son Conor to his activities.
