East Algarve Families in Need.
East Algarve Families in Need was initiated by the Pink Flamingo Croquet and Social Club, a non-profit registered association, in March 2020 to help local families economically impacted by the first COVID-19 lockdown. From March to July we delivered food and essential supplies to more than 1000 families across the East Algarve. In November and December we recommenced deliveries and delivered to 150 families. Inspired by my late husband Terje Dahl, himself a victim of Coronavirus, we gave over 70 children aged from 6 months to 16 years belonging to families who were not able to economically buy gifts a ‘Christmas in a Box’ full of toys and goodies.
Due to the high number of people currently infected by COVID-19 we had to suspend our deliveries rather than put our volunteers at risk. Fortunately these numbers have decreased and we have STARTED TO DELIVER AGAIN to families across the region.
Unfortunately after a short summer season with fewer tourists visiting than normal the families are suffering more than ever. Please help us to help them by making a donation, no matter how small. Donations are used to purchase fresh produce. All our volunteers work for free shopping, packing or delivering the food and essential items without being paid for their expenses Every cent is used on the families.
We also need donations of non-perishable food and essential items.
Food needed: (tins of tuna/sardines; tins of beans/tomatoes; long life milk; breakfast cereal; sugar; flour; cooking oil, pasta and rice); nappies; baby supplies; toiletries (shampoo/toothpaste/shower gel); washing up liquid; washing machine liquid; hygiene products; toilet rolls; cleaning products and cat and dog food.
Fresh produce will be purchased at the time we deliver to the family but if you have an abundance of fruit or vegetables in your garden we would appreciate those too.
During the current restrictions the only drop off site for these items is Pedras da Rainha in Cabanas and at our HQ when we are packing the food boxes.
