Support our midwifery work in Tanzania
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
We’re Phoebe, Harrison, Daisy, and Amy; four final-year student midwives studying at Bournemouth University. After three intense and rewarding years of training, we’re approaching the final stretch of our degree. As part of our elective placement this August, we have an incredible opportunity to travel to Moshi, Tanzania, to volunteer in a busy midwifery unit that supports women and families under incredibly challenging circumstances.
In Tanzania, access to healthcare is limited. Many families live in poverty, and maternity services are often overstretched. Women regularly give birth in overcrowded spaces, sometimes without basic supplies, running water, or pain relief. Midwives work with incredible strength and compassion, delivering care with a fraction of the resources we have in the UK.
We know that this experience will be deeply eye-opening, both professionally and personally.
We’ll witness first-hand how poverty impacts maternal and newborn care, how cultural practices shape the birthing experience, and how healthcare providers adapt and innovate to save lives in conditions that would be unimaginable back home. The lessons we learn on our trip about resilience, dignity, and the global nature of midwifery – will stay with us for life and will be qualities we aim to bring back home and apply to our practice.
As student midwives, we’ve worked full-time hours throughout our degree on unpaid placements, while also juggling academic work and part-time jobs to stay afloat. Like many in healthcare training, we’re passionate about what we do; but financially, it’s a challenge.
That’s why we’re reaching out to ask for your support.
Your donations will go directly towards covering the essential costs of our travel, accommodation, and immunisations for our time in Tanzania. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps bring us closer to this life changing opportunity.
By supporting us, you’re not just funding a trip, you’re helping shape the future of four midwives who will carry the lessons of this experience into every birth we attend, every woman and family we support, and every moment of care we provide.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story. If you’re not able to donate, please consider sharing our page, it means the world to us.
This is more than just a trip to us, it’s a chance to give, learn, and grow.
With love and thanks,
Phoebe, Harrison, Daisy & Amy
