Our Friend Needs Your Help

This is the story of how I will die.

Kidding, but Ashley will be angry when she finds this. Mostly because she doesn't know I'm setting this up. If any of you know Ashley, you know I'm right, but she will forgive me and be incredibly grateful.

As some of you know, Ashley Rewakowski was separated from her now ex-husband Mike for many years. Mike has been living on the West coast with friends. After a few years of separation, Mike served Ashley with papers for full custody of their son Jake. He claimed that Ashley was jet-setting for movie filming and leaving Jake alone, or in the care of random people. Mike claimed that he was better suited to take care of Jake. This was the beginning of Ashley’s legal issues. A lawyer was procured and as well as filing for divorce, she fought to keep Jake with her, his family, friends, school, and everything he knows. She won that battle and some clear rules and visitation rights were set with Mike.

Unfortunately, those rules have not always been followed. In August of 2021, Mike was supposed to visit. Due to very specific rules not being followed, a refusal to be vaccinated or wear a mask while around their unvaccinated son, and Ashley’s immunocompromised Partner, Ashley refused Mike’s visit. When he still came to town, and Ashley’s safety was in danger, I stayed at her apartment with her. After he went back to the home he was staying in on the West coast, Mike then again took Ashley to court. This time citing violations of the custody agreement.

Now, court date after court date has been set and attended. Meetings with her lawyer have been had. Recently, her lawyer has had to recommend Ashely to a new attorney. He felt that at this point, the original divorce and custody issue had turned into a battle of money and wills. Mike and his lawyer are trying to financially ruin Ashley so that she is no longer able to afford to fight.

Many retainers have been paid to her first lawyer. A consultation fee has been paid to the new lawyer, and another retainer of thousands of dollars has been paid. Court fees have been paid, and Ashley’s savings have been depleted. She’s had to borrow money from her mother, as well as other people. The money that she makes from her profession is dedicated to keeping a roof over her and Jake’s heads and making sure they have the bare minimum of necessities. What she can’t afford to pay outright or borrow has been put on her credit card placing her in even further debt. She’s even missed rent and had to negotiate with her landlord to keep her home.

While Ashely has been drowning, she’s been showing a happy face. She's been raising her amazing kid, running her business and the nonprofit she started, as well as supporting her partner through the severe medical issues he has suffered these last two years.

Ashley is one of the most giving people I know. She will be there the second you ask, or even if you don’t ask, and will try to find a way to help you, even to her detriment. Ashley has worked her ass off to get to where she is. It’s time that she no longer has to struggle in silence.
