Hello,

My name is Jake. I live in the town of Erin, Ontario with my wife Angelica and we annually travel to Acapulco, Mexico as her family and our long time friends live there. Usually, my wife and I stay in Acapulco during the winter months, working remotely as the climate helps with my health issues.

On Oct 25th Acapulco, Mexico was ravaged by a category 5 Hurricane named Otis. It is being claimed that Otis was one of the strongest storms, with winds of 275km/h, to have hit North America, Mexico and the eastern Pacific coast which includes the city of Acapulco. Our home, the homes of family and friends and the city have suffered significant damages with Otis. Many people that we know have been affected by this storm and are in need of help with immediate needs to start rebuilding their lives. 

The Mexican government is assisting with Acapulco’s emergency tasks such as providing water, food, restoring hydro, communication, tin roofs wherever needed. Unfortunately things like mattresses, furniture, appliances, doors, windows, etc.. were taken by the storm with fury and some items are urgently needed to secure homes. I encourage you to look into the amount of destruction this unexpected disaster caused the city, the images are heartbreaking.

Many of you, our friends in Canada, saw the news and the images of loss and terrible devastation. Knowing of our dedication and connection to the city you have offered to help in starting the process of cleaning up homes to help rebuild priority needs. With that in mind, we ask for any donation, which will assist immediate family and friends to get them back on their feet during this difficult time.  

I want to thank you for your consideration and generosity towards Acapulco, Mexico, a sun destination where many people’s lives have been changed overnight and a city that many Canadians have visited in the past.
