Help Our Family Recover From a House Fire
Hi everyone,
My name is Krystal Hefner and I’m making this account to try and help get my family back to some version of normal after they (my mother, step-dad and two brothers) lost their home in a house fire on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
This wasn't the home where my mom’s five children grew up as small kids, but we did live there as young teens and my two brothers still resided there when the house burnt down.
This place was the one permanent thing that our family could say was ours after my father passed away in 2009 when I just 16 yrs old and we had to move and find a new home.
It isn’t much. It’s just a 3 bed, 2 bath trailer, but it was paid in full and we had comfort in knowing we would never be homeless again after bouncing from place to place trying to figure out how to navigate life without my dad, who was the breadwinner of the family.
It took my mom a long time to heal from the trauma of losing my father and I think none of us truly have or ever will get over that loss, but having a home we knew was ours gave us that little peace of mind we needed to make it through.
We had so many priceless memories in that little trailer and they can never be replaced.
For example, I found out I was pregnant with my first baby at 17 yrs old there. I was terrified of the future, but I still graduated high school while living there, despite being 9 months pregnant.
I now have 3 beautiful baby boys and they loved going to their grandma’s house to playing with all the old toys my mom kept from when we were kids.
When I came home on the holidays to visit while in the Army, her house was always the first one I’d stop at, because it gave me such a bittersweet feeling to be back thinking about how much I had grown since moving out.
There is no insurance on the home, so my family is staying in a hotel temporarily but they need to make permanent living arrangements ASAP.
The trailer park owner told us that demolition of the burnt trailer will cost $8,000.00 and that must be done before my mom can get a new trailer put down on that same lot.
A new trailer that is comparable to hers will cost around $32,000, which we clearly don’t have to help her out with, so we’re reaching out to get any kind of help we can.
Since the bills are stacking up, my mom has tried to go back in the home to salvage any other items she can to keep from having to replace every little thing, but unfortunately, the dining room wall caved in as she was looking around, so she had to run out of there and most likely won’t be able to go back in for anything else due to safety reasons.
I will add more details to this account as they come up and ask you to bare with me as I’m handling this from out of state in Alabama on my mother’s behalf.
We appreciate any kind of assistance we can get, but we also welcome your thoughts and prayers at this time, because we have personally experienced the power of prayer working miracles in our lives.
If you would like to donate personally rather than on the GoFundMe, you can contact me or my two sisters Kayla Shanelle Anchecta and Tequilla Campbell.
