Refugee Crisis in Lesvos, Greece

Donation protected
Dear All,

For those of you who do not know us, our names are Nahid Fattahi and Humah Bargzie, we are from the Bay Area, California. We are both involved with human rights advocacy and community outreach. The news and images of the plight of the refugees in Lesvos, Greece, has distressed and sadden many people around the world. For us, as mothers of young children, it has been the images of the poor children and their helpless parents that has especially shattered our hearts. So we have decided to leave our children and family during the holiday seasons, to go to Lesvos Greece, and help those innocent children and families who have been forced to flee their countries to save their lives.

We are going to Lesvos, Greece on Dec 24th -Jan 4th to help the thousands of Afghan and Syrian refugees that arrive each day in Lesvos, Greece. But we cannot do this work alone. This is our plea for your help. According to Mercy Corps "The refugee crisis in the Mediterranean has reached a tipping point, and most of the families desperately fleeing across the ocean to Greece are Afghans and Syrians, escaping a brutal war that is now more than four years long." Moreover each day some 2,000 refugees are arriving to Lesvos, Greece. They need our help.

The funds raised will be used to benefit the basic and fundamental needs of the refugees. These needs include but are not limited to: Food, warm clothing, shoes, sleeping bags and blankets, emergency aid and equipment. We will document all our purchases and update all our donors accordingly.

The need for Farsi and Pashto translators is much needed as there are currently 15,000 Afghan refugees on the island. Therefore, our help to the refugees will include translation, which will not only breaks the barriers of language but will ease the trauma that these refugees are facing. During this special holiday season, we will be devoting our time to this work and will be away from our families, but we desperately need your donations to let the refugees know that you do care. Again, your donation in any amount is greatly appreciated.

And please share, share, share, share…
