Support a Teacher's Dream of Homeownership
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Bethany, and I am raising money for my first home to live in with my children. I recently was able to purchase a home in North Minneapolis through the Good Neighbor Nextdoor Program. This program serves first responders and teachers in high-needs communities, and I could not be more proud to be a part of the program.
Housing insecurity has been a struggle in my life from an early age. I watched my parents move from home to home and struggle financially. At one point in my life, all my money for college was given to the family to save us from losing our home. This action financially destroyed me for most of my adult life. I share this all to say that this is an incredibly emotional journey for me, and to have the opportunity to have a home for my family now is a dream come true.
The opportunity to continue to live and serve in the community where I work is an integral part of my identity. I have worked in the Northside community as a teacher at Camden High School for 10 years, and now I have the opportunity to put down some deep roots in a place I love. My plan is to continue to serve the Northside community through being a good neighbor and educator for students.
I am seeking donations of household items: kitchen items, garden items, tools, furniture, etc. I am happy to pick up these items from your home on your timetable as they become available. This is an ongoing request.
I am seeking the donation of time to help with moving—dates to be determined.
I am seeking upfront financial donations for things like my housing inspection, closing costs, a U-HAUL, etc. I'm sure I'm missing something here.
I am seeking advice and support for this new adventure. Do you know local handy people? Can you teach me something about my new yard? I'm here to learn.
I plan to document this journey and share more pictures as things fall into place even more.
