Help Us Bring Our Dad, Steen, Home
We’re reaching out with full hearts on behalf of our incredible dad, Steen, who suffered a massive stroke in February. Everything changed in a moment. It’s the kind of thing you never think will happen to your family until it does. Our lives were turned upside down, and for the last several months, we’ve been walking a road no family ever truly prepares for.
Our Dad spent eight long, painful weeks at Lions Gate Hospital, fighting every day just to move, to speak, to remember. Through it all, he showed the kind of strength that reminded us why we are who we are today, the quiet kind of strength that doesn’t ask for recognition. It just shows up. Now he’s been transferred back to Squamish, closer to home, closer to the people and the town he loves. But while he’s back in familiar surroundings, he’s still in the hospital. Still not where he belongs. We just want to bring him home.
Our dad is 75. He’s always been the heart of our family, the one who held everything steady, even when life got hard. He’s a father, a grandfather, a gentle soul who’s given more to the people around him than most will ever know. If you’ve spent five minutes with him, you’ve probably felt it, that calm, that kindness, and that well-timed joke to brighten your day. Now, we need to give some of that love back. To bring him home, we need help covering the cost of:
• In-home nursing and care
• Medical equipment
• Home modifications
So he can live safely and with dignity. Altogether, we’re trying to raise $25,000 to cover these urgent needs. The longer he stays in the hospital, the more his recovery is at risk. He needs his space, his familiar surroundings, and his family around him. That kind of healing doesn’t happen in a hospital room. Every dollar gets us closer to letting him wake up in his own bed, sit in his favourite spot, and be surrounded by his memories. We know this is a lot. Life is hard for everyone.
