Helping the Bahamas
Donation protected
My name is Will Engleby, I am in ninth grade and live in St. Petersburg, Florida. I am trying to raise money to buy and deliver much needed supplies for the Bahamian people who have been devastated by Hurricane Dorian.
Both my parents worked in the Bahamas for many years. My Dad was the Captain of the Wild Dolphin Project's R/V Stenella. My mom also worked in Lucaya, Grand Bahama Island and helped out the Wild Dolphin Project conduct their dolphin research over the years. I really want to help the Bahamas and I'm working with my parents to raise funds to bring much needed supplies to the Bahamas. My Dad is in daily communication with Bahamian contacts on West End Grand Bahama Island so we can stay in touch with what supplies are most needed.
In September, we worked with the Wild Dolphin Project (they study spotted dolphins on the Bahama banks) to fill their large research vessel (65ft power catamaran) with all kinds of supplies, such as generators, portable stoves, inflatable mattresses, sheets, pillows, etc. and my Dad helped take them over to the Bahamas. He hand delivered these supplies to people in need. Everyone there really appreciated the donations. You can see all the photos in my updates.
We are still raising funds to bring over supplies. People are still trying to get their lives back and more livable. Specifically, they need roofing and building supplies and tools to make their homes livable. These are really heavy, so my Dad is working to transport these over with a shipping container. He talks to his contacts in the Bahamas regularly and they are so appreciative of anything we can bring over.
We will use 100% of these contributions to purchase as many supplies as we can with the funds we raise. My Mom, Laura Engleby, will be responsible for withdrawing money raised from this site into her bank account so she can take me and Dad shopping (Home Depot, Lowes, Costco, Target, etc.. etc..) to purchase supplies for the Bahamas. I’ll follow up with photos so you can see your donation in action (see the updates).
Thank you!!
