Support Scrap Thursdays: A Warm, Welcoming Space for All

Every Thursday, something beautiful happens on the top floor of the Wellgate Centre. At a time when many people feel isolated, overwhelmed, or simply overlooked, Scrap Antics Cic offers something simple but powerful: Scrap Thursdays! A free, weekly community drop-in where everyone is welcome, no matter your age, background, or walk of life.

Hosted in a cosy, inclusive space, every Thursday, our doors open to people from all corners of the community, New Scots, local families, older adults, students, and anyone seeking connection, comfort, or just a safe place to be.

We connect, create, care and share cups of tea, sandwiches, stories, and smiles. Some people come to play a game of pool or table tennis, others relax with knitting, a book, or a board game. There’s often someone on the guitar or keyboard or a creative activity on the go, using recycled, repurposed, and donated materials. It’s more than just this though. It’s connection, wellbeing, skill-sharing, sign-posting and sustainability in action. For many, it’s the highlight of the week, a moment of belonging.

We also offer free barbering and hairdressing, creating dignity and uplift with a simple cut or tidy-up, something many can’t easily afford.

Out drop in also hosts pop up sessions with organisations such as Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action, NHS Community Nurses, Citizens Advice Bureau and more.

What We Do:

~ Offer free, open-access creative activities every Thursday

~ Provide a warm, inclusive space where everyone feels seen, safe, and valued

~ Use scrap and surplus materials to promote sustainability and resourcefulness

~ Encourage mental wellbeing, community bonding, and joyful expression

Scrap Thursdays is not just an activity hub, it’s a sanctuary of care, laughter, and mutual respect.

But we can’t do it alone.

With your support, we can continue to offer this soulful, sustainable, and much-needed community offering without barriers.. We’re asking for your help to keep Scrap Thursdays running - to cover the basic costs of refreshments, space costs, heating, equipment maintenance, and volunteer support. Each session costs us around £400, so this support will enable us to continue offering this free to all community drop in throughout the summer months.
