My name is Tomara, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my family—two parents and six beautiful children—who recently took a leap of faith to start over. After struggling with rising costs and financial hardship in low-income housing in the Bay Area, California, we made the life-changing decision to relocate to rural New Mexico.

This wasn’t easy. We had to leave behind more than half of our belongings. But we left with something far more powerful: hope.

You see, after the recent passing of my father, I inherited a piece of land—raw, full of potential, and blessed with the opportunity to build a future. We see this land not just as dirt and grass, but as a sacred gift—a path out of poverty and toward independence, stability, and peace. Our dream is to transform it into a small homestead and farm, where we can grow our own food, raise animals, and create a life that nourishes both our family and our new community.

We’ve already begun. We have a few chickens, and a goat who may be expecting. I’ve started building a partially underground greenhouse, which will allow us to grow food year-round in New Mexico’s tough climate. We’re committed, passionate, and ready to work hard every single day. But the reality is—we need a little help to get started.

Cover essential living expenses during our transition

Purchase basic tools and materials to complete our greenhouse

Build shelters and fencing for animals

Start sustainable income-generating projects from our land
