Filmore Gardens Community Garden

Filmore Gardens Community Garden is conveniently
located in the Gentilly area of New Orleans.  The garden has served the community for five years.  The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise "seed" money to purchase books for our Free Little Library, vegetable and fruit plants, herbs and a variety of beautiful, bright and colorful flowers that attract birds, bumble bees, butterflies, lady bugs, earthworms, and other insects that are important to sustaining a healthy planet.  The garden is a perfect place for seniors, children, and youth to contribute to an environmentally safe and family-friendly community garden.  Funds raised will also be used to support community events such as Storytelling Saturday, Youth Marshmallow Roast and the Annual Night Out Against Crime.  Young Gentillians are so excited about the garden because many of them have never experienced witnessing food grow from the ground or on fruit trees.  This is a testament to how important a garden is to educating our young people.  The solar lights, string of lights, bird feeder, bird bath, wind chimes, Little Free Library, benches, picnic tables and bee house are wonderful attractions to the garden. Visitors immediately sense a spirit of peace, tranquility, and a safe and stress free environment.  The garden is particularly important to the community as it is symbolic of the spirit of resilience after our beloved city was completely washed-out by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.  It is with great hope and faith that this community garden will continue to flourish because of generous donations from supporters such as you.   Your consideration of a donation will contribute to the success of growing our own fresh food that will hopefully encourage everyone to eat hearty, eat healthy and enjoy nature's beauty that is a masterpiece of our Creator.
