(The names in this story are fictitious to protect my friend's privacy)
Sexual assault is harder to prove than Homicide.
That being said, a parent's worst nightmare is losing a child; second only discovering that child has been sexually assaulted by the other parent. What's worse is the child being put in unprotected custody with the abuser. This is what happened to my good friend's seven year old daughter Lily. Lily was taken from my friend Friday, August 23rd and given temporary legal custody to her father, the abuser. Disclosures of abuse began when she was only 4. Three years later, what has transpired have been multiple investigations dropped by authorities-despite Lily being a CREDIBLE WITNESS by over half a dozen doctors, police and professionals. The offender orchestrated a ruse with key alibi witnesses to lie for him, and furthermore "neutral" parties have chosen to WILLINGLY omit pertinent facts from evidence due to unknown reasons, which is part of why we started this campaign. Something is wrong with our Justice system.
In Lily's home state, more than 6,000 of 8,000 cases of abuse are marked unfounded. That's more than 75% of children back into care of the abuser. Research with children whose sexual abuse has been proven has shown that children tend to minimize and deny abuse, not exaggerate or over-report such incidents. Up to 1 in 3 girls will be sexually abused during their childhoods, and as many as 1 in 7 boys.

Our friend and her family have been through the gamut of legal formalities in attempt to keep Lily supervised and protected while navigating this negligent system. Lily's father has sub-par court ordered supervision (a "nanny" hired by him), and a different court has now granted him temporary legal custody.
The people who criticized and further instructed our friend to take action when abuse had in fact occurred---have now removed Lily from her care, due to a nebulous diagnosis of "medical abuse and neglect". Believing Lily's outcry, observing physical symptoms and following instructed procedures have resulted in Lily being removed from her home.
Presently, the family's attorneys are working overtime with a multitude of court emergencies, motions and petitions to get Lily home. Our friend and her family have exhausted all financial resources over three years of hardship due to negligent and underfunded state run investigations. The civil trial exceeded projected expenses in just one month. In order to bring all key witnesses and experts in front of multiple judges to honor Lily's voice and put a permanent plan of protection in order, the cost will be well beyond anything this family can further fund.
This is a rampant crisis ongoing in our society. Lily is currently with her abuser's family and our friend, her mother, has not had any contact with Lily going on two weeks. The lawyer fee is $5,000 a week, and this week was barely paid with maxed credit cards. Many of us are supporting Lily because what has happened to this family is wrong, and could happen to any of us.
We are gathering to help fight for Truth and Justice.
This is about reforming our broken judicial system and true protection of ALL our children.
Any donation is greatly appreciated, even the smallest ( and to every penny).
Thank you so very much for taking your time to read this.
Please help bring Justice to Lily.
