Hello everyone,
In collaboration with Make It Happen, and in response to what’s been happening around our country, a group of us have decided to show our commitment to fighting for equality for our Black friends, neighbors, community members and fellow Americans by running/walking an 8.46K in honor of George Floyd, and the countless other African-American lives that’ve been lost to senseless brutality over the course of our country’s history.
All proceeds will be donated directly to Make It Happen, a Seattle-based, non-profit organization founded by Talia Walton, which is dedicated to holistically developing youth through sports. Make It Happen strives to provide youth with the tools they need to develop as leaders in the classroom, on the court or field, and in their communities!
This isn’t just a commitment for us to run, raise some money and be done with a pat on the back. Rather, this is a pledge to learn more about how to be active allies, and a vow to be relentless in our pursuit of equality, and most importantly, an example that we can and should be doing this together. This is an opportunity not only to raise money for an incredible foundation, but also to reflect on ourselves and our circumstances as we focus on making positive change in what is a pivotal time in our lives, and in history.
We appreciate all monetary donations. We also encourage you to also take the time to reflect and learn what you can do to make a difference, because all of us are capable of doing so in a positive way.
If you’d like to join us, we’ll be starting at the Greenlake Community Center at 11 a.m. on June 14th.
