After joining the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corp and working with the Blue Star Mothers I soon began to realize how many of our American Heroes are living on the streets. Getting involved with these two military based programs showed me that there were ways that I, as a 16 year old kid could help these homeless Veterans. Through the Blue Star Mothers I was referred to a program around Christmas time called adopt a vet run by Iler Jenkins director of Help USA. With this program I was able to use some of my own money and buy a homeless veterans Christmas wish list. This event allowed me to witness firsthand what Iler Jenkins and Help USA do for these homeless veterans. They provide housing, jobs, and services, all the essentials for getting these men and women off the streets. I figured that if I were able to raise money for Help USA it could help them tremendously with getting these veterans back on their feet and giving them the life they deserve.
