#5KAY for Fans Supporting Foodbanks 2024

The Dan Kay Foundation are supporting Fans Supporting Foodbanks to feed families in need this Christmas.

The Dan Kay Foundation, a registered charity, was launched in memory of Dan Kay, the Liverpool ECHO journalist and Hillsborough campaigner who died in May 2023 aged 45.

We are asking you to help feed underprivileged people across Liverpool to continue Dan's legacy. Dan would often volunteer at foodbanks on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to ensure no-one went hungry.

This year, we are asking you to raise money in Dan's honour by walking, running, or travelling 5km - #5KAY - before December 20th 2024.

After your effort, post your best pictures to social media with #5KAY and challenge three others to take part! All funds raised are donated to Fans Supporting Foodbanks, with over £1,000 raised in 2023.

Dan worked at the ECHO from 2003-2021 across news and sport and was a universally popular member of the team. He was a driving force within the campaign for justice over Hillsborough both in his personal life and with the ECHO - where he was central to the coverage that stemmed from the disaster, most poignantly of the inquests that led to the ruling the 97 innocent men, women and children who lost their lives as a result of the tragedy were unlawfully killed.

The Dan Kay Foundation has raised over £15,000 since 2023, funding mental health and suicide crisis training, youth organisations in Liverpool and feeding those in need.
