A few days before Christmas our family welcomed baby Lucas James or LJ into the world. His mom is a type 1 diabetic so we knew that it was a high risk but he came into the world with a blood sugar of 12 and low oxygen. He immediately had to be airlifted to deaconess to be in the NICU. It has been a battle full of ups and downs to keep little LJ’s oxygen levels up and get him off his feeding tube, so that he can go home. He has almost met his breathing goals multiple times but his hospital visit has continuously had to be extended. This is not only emotionally draining for the new parents but also has caused hospital bills to burden them as well. We are hoping to lighten the load for them a little bit to make their homecoming (which will hopefully be soon) a little less stressful.
