A single mother of two (from Prior Lake, Minnesota), stuck in Greece while waiting for the courts to rule on her ex’s custody and abuse charges, needs our help!!
This woman (who has to remain nameless for her safety and under advisement from her lawyer) moved to Greece years ago to start a life with the man she loved. She brought her daughter (from a previous relationship) and together they had a son. After sometime it became apparent that he wasn't the man she thought he was. He appeared, to those around him, as a nice family man. Behind closed doors he abused her, sexually abused her young daughter, and threatened their son numerous times.
She finally was able to leave him. With help from local friends she filed police reports and moved into a hotel while trying to figure out what the next steps were. Her citizenship application is in progress with hopes to start working as its approved. A lawyer, who is currently working on a service-now-pay-later plan, is helping. She is also in communication with the US Embassy but their hands are tied because her son is Greek and his father (the abuser) still has custody rights.
The courts said it could take up to two years for the child abuse case to close. A custody hearing will happen soon but the abuse case could affect that decision later. In the meantime she is STUCK. The Salvation Army is helping with supplies. She has a very discounted rate at the hotel and is living as inexpensively as possible. (Even working odd part time jobs as she can find them!)
The GoFundMe is to collect some money to help her pay for living expenses & to get her through the next few months with hopes that her citizenship gets finalized and she can get back on her feet! In a perfect world she would move back to the United States where there is support of family and friends. In the meantime she is doing what she can to make sure the kids have happy day-to-day lives and justice is served for the abuse her family endured.
Any financial help is appreciated, literally anything…
Prayers, well wishes, expert advice, good thoughts and any other help is also welcomed. We, as her friends, feel hopeless and want to do what we can to help her through this nightmare.
